Mark Smith

OWNER / OPERATOR

Mark Smith has been a member of the garden and landscape community since 1986 where he began working for the City of Newburyport, MA in the summer as a lawn maintenance employee.  He continued to work within the industry through high school and into college.  With a bachelor’s degree in Urban Forestry from the University of Massachusetts in 1993, Mark took a position as garden maintenance supervisor at the Prudential Center in Boston, MA. 

In the years to come Mark worked for several landscape design /build firms in the area while perfecting the techniques he continues to practice today. 

In 1997, he and former co-worker, now business partner, James Knight made the decision to create Majestic Landscapes Inc.,  a full service landscape construction and maintenance company.  In 2000 Mark became a Massachusetts Certified Landscape Professional proving that he was a leader in his industry.  Both in 2004 & 2006, Mark continued to strive for a higher level of professionalism by achieving Certified Irrigation Contractor and Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor.  His latest achievement has been level one of the Certified Landscape Irrigation Designer title.  Mark has always been a proponent of certification and licensing in the industry and encourages his employees and others in the field to pursue a similar course.  

Giving back to the industry, Mark has served on the Board of Directors for the Irrigation Association of New England, participated in the Boston Flower Show, and served on numerous committees in various industry associations.

Mark’s role in Majestic has been and continues to be landscape construction, irrigation and lighting.  His philosophy is that having an “all in” approach to all aspects of the project from start to finish provides the customer with a well thought out, functional outdoor living space that blends into the New England countryside and stands the test of time.  Mark has always been willing to work one on one with the customer to assure their every need is met, building a working relationship for years to come!
